What's in the Tree
Kindergarten children (children  aged 3-5) have a lot of fun with this idea and they learn a lot of English. It's specially good for Vocabulary.

Materials. One copy of the tree picture for each child, glue sticks, a set of scissors for the teacher and a few copys of the things in the tree picture.

First the children get a picture of a tree. Then the teacher holds up the second sheet with the things that might be in the tree. When a child can repeat or remember the English word for a thing for the tree the teacher cuts it out for the child, who can then stick it in the tree in the picture. A healthy element of competition can appear in groups with more than one child as they race to get the most things for their trees. The children can colour the pictures in as they go.

and the things in the tree.

The kite is always a favourite and the Austrian children that I teach often ask for it, but they call it by the German word, dragon. I say well done and cut out the much less popular dragon fly for them. This soon teaches them that the English word is kite and not dragon.
