Modern Fiction of the Uncanny
This fiction (extract below) is something I am working on and am quite proud of, although I have no idea how it's going to end quite yet. One of the problems for me in writing modern fiction is that there seems to be less room for fanatsy.

Fiction writing is one of the most creative ways there is to express yourself. I find that the stories have the side benefit that the fiction provides inspiration for my art. Then as I am drawing illustrations, elemnts that i might add to the art for purely compositional reasons feeds back into the material I'm writing.

I'm very lucky to be a writer and illustrator living ata time when the internet exists to give an outlet to my work.

I am currently creating a whole fictional world as a backdrop for a roll playing gameand the work is so rewardng.

Julia and Mr. Cricket.
An extract from this piece of fiction that I'm working on and considering publishers for. Here we get the first glimpse that all might be not quite right for the characters in this story.

..........Dave stopped scratching at his gut and looked at Kevin in disbelief. “Of course the engine’s off.” He shouted and then added, “stupid boy.” As an absent minded after thought.
Kevin reached out to touch the metal cylinder that housed the wood that was being driven into the mud of the floor just moments ago. The huge metal weight was jammed in on top of it. Just as Kevin’s fingers touched the cylinder there was a screeching wrenching splintering noise as the whole arrangement of cylinder and weight was wrenched to one side. The length of pier Kevin was standing on was twisted beyond its meagre tolerances. Old wooden laths and cheap plastic floats were pulled apart and Kevin and the club member were thrown into the water. With its cables singing in protest the pile driving machine skidded to one side. Not for the first time the phrase “industrial accident” flashed across Dave’s mind but he managed to keep his footing and the crane shifted about on its support legs but did not topple..........
I enjoy writing these action packed science fiction stories and I'm working on another science fiction story at the same time.
