I Am Doing

This lesson teaches how to use the ing form.
In English we use this form of words to show we are talking about a present action that is temporary.
This is the ...ing form which we use to show that there is a period of time involved.

I am painting the room. (This is happening now but maybee not this moment, it takes a long time to paint a room and you need to eat sleep etc.)

I am talking to him. (Either the talk is happening right now, perhaps on the telephone, perhaps every day with an advisor who is connected with a temporary project which is not over.)

Why are they cancelling the bus service? (The cancellation process has begun and it will be over soon, it is temporary.)
These are the simple things taught by this English lesson to remeber.

A little care is needed with the ...ing form. The ...ing form is used in English grammar for other things as well as tense forming.

The ...ing form is very often used to make a noun into a verb.

A garden is bit of land with nice flowers. Gardening is all the things I do in the garden, like when I dig out weeds.

The ...ing form is also used for making things sound more polite.

We think your company should be closed. This sounds short and unfriendly.

We are thinking of closing your company. Of course nobody wants to hear this, but it is a little more polite.
