I started learning german by reading disney comic books and after a couple of months hard work with a dictionary I was ready for chapter books.
Comic books are very good at teaching language because you have pictures to help you understand the words.
You can also see what the characters are doing and talking about and this helps in understanding the grammar.
You will need a dictionary and at the beginning and you will need to look up almost every single word.
If you are at the very beginning and you are really trying to understand it might take you an hour to read just a couple of pages and you might only understand 20%. But keep working and reading every day and even though you are probably not reading any faster, the percentage you understand will increase.
